Monica Lawson, PhD
Licensed Clinical Psychologist, VALicensed Psychologist, PA
Dr. Monica Lawson is a licensed clinical psychologist, serving adults 18 years old and up. Her approach to therapy is grounded in psychodynamic, humanistic, existential, and phenomenological approaches to psychological distress. She appreciates how early experiences often play a formative role in our adult experiences. With this in mind, much of her work draws on attachment theory, and understanding how early attachment relationships shape and inform how we relate and attach to others in adulthood. She also takes seriously how experiences of oppression contribute to distress and suffering. Dr. Lawson actively integrates a focus on various aspects of identity (i.e. gender, sexual orientation, ability, race, class, socioeconomic status) and how those aspects shape and inform a person’s experience in the world. She specifically enjoys providing couples therapy, individual therapy for those who wish to examine family of origin concerns, and for those who have experienced religious trauma. Dr. Lawson especially enjoys working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community, trans* clients, and supporting women with their mental health care across the lifespan. Dr. Lawson provides individual therapy to adults of various identities 18 years and up, and specializes in couples therapy from an Emotionally Focused and psychodynamic (depth-therapy) perspective. To contact Dr. Lawson, you can reach her at her website: https://lawsonpsych.com
Becky Bartells
Massage Therapist
Becky has been practicing massage since 2012 and has enjoyed every moment of the process, from living and learning the art of massage in Playa Samara, Costa Rica to creating her business in her beloved Harrisonburg, VA. She especially appreciates the interaction with clients, “trouble-shooting” their aches and pains and working together to accomplish both short and long term goals of pain cessation, relaxation and general wellness. In 2017, Becky sought out physical therapy to help with chronic hip pain that she was unable to resolve through massage or chiropractic. The PT was able to resolve her pain in two sessions and encouraged Becky to study the modality that she was using, Fascial Counterstrain. Knowing that this modality existed and was so effective, Becky decided she didn’t have a choice and started with the next available class. Fascial Counterstrain is the most challenging thing she has ever learned, but the results that she gets to achieve every day in her office are well worth the additional time, money and effort. This already rewarding career has become more rewarding than she ever could have imagined and for that, she is eternally grateful
